Destined Rivals: chase cards, pull rates and most valuable cards

The chase cards of Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals, what each rarity tier means, sold prices as of October 18, 2026, and what the published pull-rate estimates found.

Destined Rivals is a Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion in the Scarlet & Violet Series, released on May 30, 2025. Its main set has 182 cards, and 62 more are numbered above it (183/182 to 244/182), for 244 cards in all. The set brings back Team Rocket: The Pokémon Company's set page counts over 85 Trainer's Pokémon, including over 45 Team Rocket's Pokémon, and sets heroes such as Cynthia, Ethan and Arven against Team Rocket's Pokémon under the command of Giovanni. The Special Illustration Rare Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex is by far the set's most valuable card. This page shows the cards collectors chase, ranks them by sold prices as of October 18, 2026, and compares the published pull-rate estimates. It is a reference, not buying advice.

The rarity tiers above the main set

Every card has a rarity. The 62 cards above the main set fall into four tiers; a fifth, Double Rare, sits inside the main set. Destined Rivals has twice as many cards above the main set as Journey Together (62 against 31), which matters for the odds of any one card.

  • Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex leads by a wide margin. The Special Illustration Rare #231 was at $373.97 ungraded, about twice Cynthia's Garchomp ex #232 ($185.00), and at $928.57 it was also the highest PSA 10 in the table, with about three PSA 10 sales a day.
  • Misty's Illustration Rares grade up well. Misty's Psyduck #193 is eighth raw at $47.00 but third in a PSA 10 ($320.00), ahead of Ethan's Ho-Oh ex #230 ($295.00). Misty's Lapras #194 is eleventh raw at $25.36 but was at $242.50 in a PSA 10, above Team Rocket's Moltres ex #229 and Nidoking ex #233. Ethan's Typhlosion #190, just outside the table at $21.04 ungraded, was also at $242.50 in a PSA 10.
  • The gold cards trail the Special Illustration Rares. The gold Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex #240 was at $51.09 ungraded, about a seventh of #231, and $159.75 in a PSA 10; the gold Cynthia's Garchomp ex #241 was at $27.25, and the gold Ethan's Ho-Oh ex #239 ($20.83) did not make the table.
  • Trainer cards. Ethan's Adventure #236 ($30.52) and Team Rocket's Giovanni #238 ($25.31) are the two Trainer Special Illustration Rares in the table; the third, Team Rocket's Ariana #237, was at $17.61.
  • What is left out. Sealed products and staff, stamped, store and promo versions are not ranked, such as Team Rocket's Giovanni [Regional Staff] #174 ($700.00 ungraded), Misty's Gyarados [Staff] #49 ($549.99 PSA 10) and Ethan's Typhlosion [Staff] #34 ($387.80 PSA 10).
  • Graded vs raw. Whether a PSA 10 price is worth chasing depends on the odds of getting one and on the fees; Is it worth grading? works through the method and PSA 9 vs PSA 10 covers what separates the two grades.

Pull rates

No official pull rates were found for Destined Rivals; TCGTalk also notes that The Pokémon Company does not publish them. The figures below are estimates from published pack openings: they are per pack, not guarantees. Only one large study was found, TCGplayer's opening of more than 8,000 packs; the only other opening with stated hit counts is a 100-pack case reported by TCGTalk.

TCGplayer's Authentication Center opened the packs to prepare for the release. It also gives per-card odds, assuming every card of a rarity is equally common: about 1 in 86 packs for a specific Double Rare, 1 in 278 for a specific Illustration Rare, 1 in 344 for a specific Ultra Rare, 1 in 894 for a specific Hyper Rare and 1 in 1,033 for a specific Special Illustration Rare; for Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex #231 it puts the chance at 0.10% per pack. On those rates it takes about 249 packs on average to find every Double Rare, 1,037 for every Illustration Rare, 1,273 for every Ultra Rare, 2,227 for every Hyper Rare and 3,020 for every Special Illustration Rare.

Where the estimates differ

  • Against Journey Together. TCGplayer found the rates in line with Journey Together: its Ultra Rare rate was 6.39% ± 0.52% against 6.54% ± 0.52%, a difference well inside the confidence range. Because Destined Rivals has twice as many cards above the main set, TCGplayer puts the odds of a specific one at about half those in Journey Together.
  • Special Illustration Rares. TCGplayer has 1 in 94 packs; TCGTalk's case found two in 100 packs, which it describes as beating its stated rate of about 1 in 100. Two hits are too few to tell the two apart.
  • Gold Hyper Rares. TCGTalk states about 1 in 50 packs for a gold card and found one in its 100 packs; TCGplayer's much larger sample gives 1 in 149. TCGTalk does not say how its stated rate was derived beyond community data and case openings.
  • Full arts. TCGTalk's stated rate of about 1 in 16 packs for full art ex and Trainer cards, and its six full arts in 100 packs, match TCGplayer's 1 in 16 for Ultra Rares.
  • Why TCGTalk is given less weight. Its stated figures blend the case with unnamed community reports, and its page contradicts itself on ex cards (about 1 in 4–6 packs in its rate table, “roughly 1 in every 16 packs or better” in its hit list), so only its hit counts are shown above.

Checklist before you rely on a number here

  • ☐ The price has a date: everything above is as of October 18, 2026, and prices move daily.
  • ☐ You are comparing like with like: ungraded with ungraded, PSA 10 with PSA 10, and the right card number (Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex is printed as #081, #213, #231 and #240; Cynthia's Garchomp ex as #104, #215, #232 and #241).
  • ☐ The PSA 10 price rests on regular sales (check the sales column; “3 sales per week” is thinner than “3 sales per day”).
  • ☐ Pull rates are averages over many packs; a single box can land well above or below them.
  • ☐ Before grading, check the card against the modern pre-grading checklist.
