Pitch Black: chase cards, pull rates and most valuable cards

Pitch Black is a Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion in the Mega Evolution Series, released on July 17, 2026. Its main set has 84 cards, and 36 more are numbered above it (085/084 to 120/084), for 120 cards in all. The Pokémon Company's announcement led with Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Excadrill ex. This page shows the cards collectors chase, ranks them by sold prices as of October 17, 2026, and compares the published pull-rate studies. It is a reference, not buying advice.

The chase cards

The grid shows the Mega Hyper Rare, all six Special Illustration Rares and the five cards below them with the highest ungraded prices, with ungraded and PSA 10 prices as of October 17, 2026. Mega Darkrai ex appears three times: as the Ultra Rare full art (101), the Special Illustration Rare (116) and the gold Mega Hyper Rare (120).

The rarity tiers above the main set

Every card has a rarity. The 36 cards above the main set fall into four tiers; a fifth, Double Rare, sits inside the main set.

Most valuable cards

Ranked by ungraded price, the value of a raw copy as pulled from a pack, with the PSA 10 value and how often PSA 10 copies sell. Prices come from recent sold listings; “rare” in the sales column means very few recorded sales, so treat that PSA 10 figure as rough. All values as of October 17, 2026.

• The two Darkrai secret rares lead. Raw, the Special Illustration Rare (#116) edged out the gold Mega Hyper Rare (#120), $151.73 against $144.50. In a PSA 10 the order flips: #120 was at $1,777.25, more than twice #116's $765.50, but on about one sale a week against two a day.
• Morpeko ex is third. The Morpeko ex Special Illustration Rare was the only other card above $50 ungraded ($64.12), with a PSA 10 value of $676.36.
• Cheap raw, expensive in a 10. Some Illustration Rares and Supporters are worth little raw but much more in a PSA 10: Slowbro #090 ($8.25 raw, $284.50 PSA 10), Misty's Vitality #111 ($12.21, $275.00) and Armarouge #086 ($3.55 raw, $299.50 PSA 10, on about one sale a month).
• What is left out. Sealed products and stamped or store-exclusive versions such as Zarude [GameStop] #56 are not ranked here.
• Graded vs raw. Whether a PSA 10 price is worth chasing depends on the odds of getting one and on the fees; Is it worth grading? works through the method and PSA 9 vs PSA 10 covers what separates the two grades.

Pull rates

No official pull rates were found for Pitch Black. The figures below are estimates from published pack openings: they are per pack, not guarantees, and the sample sizes range from 55 packs to more than 4,000.

TCGplayer also gives per-card odds, assuming every card of a rarity is equally common: about 1 in 48 packs for a specific Double Rare, 1 in 100 for a specific Illustration Rare, 1 in 217 for a specific Ultra Rare and 1 in 480 (0.21%) for a specific Special Illustration Rare such as Mega Darkrai ex #116. For the gold Mega Darkrai ex it puts the average at about 1,111 packs. It found the rates in line with the earlier Mega Evolution sets Phantasmal Flames, Perfect Order and Chaos Rising, so a specific card of a given rarity is about as hard to find as in those sets.

1. Double Rare: 21.02% ± 1.21% of packs, about 1 in 5 packs.
2. Illustration Rare: 11.01% ± 0.93% of packs, about 1 in 9 packs.
3. Ultra Rare: 8.30% ± 0.82% of packs, about 1 in 12 packs.
4. Special Illustration Rare: 1.25% ± 0.33% of packs, about 1 in 80 packs.
5. Mega Hyper Rare: 0.09% ± 0.09% of packs, about 1 in 1,081 packs.

Where the estimates disagree

• Ultra Rares. TCGplayer has 1 in 12 packs and ComicBook.com's 55 packs gave about 1 in 11, but TCGTalk's count is less than half that (3.6%). TCGTalk says the ex, Illustration Rare and Ultra Rare figures for its 500-pack community opening were apportioned from the observed cadence rather than counted card by card.
• Special Illustration Rares. TCGplayer's 1 in 80 packs is the only figure from a large sample. TCGTalk found 6 in 753 packs (about 1 in 125) and calls its own rate statistically shaky; ComicBook.com found none in 55.
• Illustration Rares agree. TCGplayer and TCGTalk both land at about 1 in 9 packs; ComicBook.com's smaller sample gave about 1 in 11.
