Phantasmal Flames: chase cards, pull rates and most valuable cards

The chase cards of Mega Evolution—Phantasmal Flames, what each rarity tier means, sold prices as of October 18, 2026, and what the published pull-rate estimates found.

Phantasmal Flames is a Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion in the Mega Evolution Series, released on November 14, 2025. Its main set has 94 cards, and 36 more are numbered above it (095/094 to 130/094), for 130 cards in all. The Pokémon Company's set page leads with Mega Charizard X ex and Mega Gengar ex, alongside Mega Heracross ex and Mega Lopunny ex. Mega Charizard X ex is the card the set is known for: it is printed four times, and two of those versions are worth far more than anything else in the set. This page shows the cards collectors chase, ranks them by sold prices as of October 18, 2026, and sets out the published pull-rate estimates. It is a reference, not buying advice.

The rarity tiers above the main set

Every card has a rarity. The 36 cards above the main set fall into four tiers; a fifth, Double Rare, sits inside the main set. Phantasmal Flames has a single Mega Hyper Rare, where the first Mega Evolution set had two.

  • Two Charizards, then a long drop. The Special Illustration Rare Mega Charizard X ex #125 was at $650.00 ungraded, more than three times the gold #130 ($201.79). The next card, the Ultra Rare Mega Charizard X ex #109, was at $23.24, and every other single in the table was under $20.
  • In a PSA 10 the order flips. The gold #130 was the highest PSA 10 at $2,050.37, ahead of #125 at $1,466.44, but the gold card sold about once a day in a PSA 10 against about six times a day for #125.
  • Illustration Rares grade up well. Meowth #106 is sixth raw at $16.61 but third in a PSA 10 ($109.08), just ahead of Mega Charizard X ex #109 ($107.82), and with about six PSA 10 sales a day it trades as often as #125. Piplup #98 ($86.89) is also ahead of all four non-Charizard Special Illustration Rares, which ranged from $53.00 to $66.53 in a PSA 10.
  • What is left out. Sealed products and staff, stamped, store and prize pack versions are not ranked, such as Dawn [Regional Championships Staff] #87 ($576.08 ungraded), Suicune [GameStop] #26 ($748.47 PSA 10) and Reshiram [Stamped] #17 ($425.69 PSA 10).
  • Graded vs raw. Whether a PSA 10 price is worth chasing depends on the odds of getting one and on the fees; Is it worth grading? works through the method and PSA 9 vs PSA 10 covers what separates the two grades.

Pull rates

No official pull rates were found for Phantasmal Flames. The figures below are estimates from published pack openings: they are per pack, not guarantees. Only one large study was found, TCGplayer's opening of more than 5,000 packs; the only other opening with a stated sample is a 20-pack review. Other pull-rate pages found for this set either give no sample size or contradict their own figures, so they are not listed.

TCGplayer's Authentication Center opened the packs to prepare for the release. It also gives per-card odds, assuming every card of a rarity is equally common: about 1 in 48 packs for a specific Double Rare, 1 in 118 for a specific Illustration Rare, 1 in 211 for a specific Ultra Rare and 1 in 400 (0.25%) for a specific Special Illustration Rare such as Mega Charizard X ex #125; it reports finding that card in roughly one of every 400 packs. The single Mega Hyper Rare, the gold Mega Charizard X ex #130, comes out at about 1 in 1,260 packs. On those rates it takes about 140 packs on average to find every Double Rare, 378 for every Illustration Rare, 732 for every Ultra Rare and 913 for every Special Illustration Rare.

How far the estimates go

  • Against the first Mega Evolution set. TCGplayer found the rounded rates for most rarities identical to those of Mega Evolution. Its Special Illustration Rare rate looked better, but the confidence ranges of the two samples overlap, so the difference may be chance.
  • The Mega Hyper Rare. Because Phantasmal Flames has one Mega Hyper Rare instead of two, TCGplayer puts a specific one at 1 in 1,260 packs, against 1 in 2,520 for the Mega Hyper Rare Mega Lucario ex in Mega Evolution. Its margin of ± 0.08% is as large as the rate itself, so the figure rests on very few hits. Later sets such as Perfect Order and Chaos Rising keep the single Mega Hyper Rare.
  • The 20-pack review. Wargamer's four Double Rares in 20 packs match TCGplayer's 1 in 5, but no sample that small can confirm the rarer tiers; it found no Special Illustration Rare, which at 1 in 80 is the expected result. The review quotes TCGplayer's 1 in 80 Special Illustration Rare rate against 1 in 94 for Destined Rivals.

Checklist before you rely on a number here

  • ☐ The price has a date: everything above is as of October 18, 2026, and prices move daily.
  • ☐ You are comparing like with like: ungraded with ungraded, PSA 10 with PSA 10, and the right card number (Mega Charizard X ex is printed as #013, #109, #125 and #130; Dawn as #118 and #129).
  • ☐ The PSA 10 price rests on regular sales (check the sales column; “1 sale per day” is thinner than “6 sales per day”).
  • ☐ Pull rates are averages over many packs; a single box can land well above or below them.
  • ☐ Before grading, check the card against the modern pre-grading checklist.
