Paldean Fates: chase cards, pull rates and most valuable cards
The chase cards of the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Paldean Fates special set, what each rarity tier means, sold prices as of November 6, 2026, and what two published pack counts found.
Paldean Fates is a special Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion in the Scarlet & Violet Series, released on January 26, 2024. It brought Shiny Pokémon back to the card game, following Hidden Fates (2019) and Shining Fates (2021): Shiny Pikachu, Tinkaton, Ceruledge, Dondozo and more than 100 other Shiny Pokémon, plus Charizard, Forretress and Espathra as Shiny Tera Pokémon ex. The printed set has only 91 cards, and 154 more are numbered above it, 245 in all; 132 of those 154 are Shiny Rares or Shiny Ultra Rares. This page shows the chase cards, ranks the set by sold prices as of November 6, 2026, and compares two published pack counts. It is a reference, not buying advice.

The rarity tiers
The main set (001–091) holds 40 Common, 25 Uncommon and 16 Rare cards and 10 Double Rares. Above it sit six tiers. The Shiny cards fill the first Reverse Holo slot: according to TCGplayer, roughly 1 in 3 packs has a Shiny card there. Several Pokémon appear more than once: Charizard ex as #054 (Double Rare) and #234 (Special Illustration Rare), Gardevoir ex as #029, #217 (Shiny Ultra Rare) and #233, and Mew ex only above the main set, as #216 and #232. The artist aspara drew three of the five Supporter Special Illustration Rares (Arven, Nemona and Penny), and AKIRA EGAWA drew Charizard ex #234; more on both is on the Pokémon card artists page and the Charizard cards hub.

- Mew ex on top. Mew ex #232 is the only card above $250 raw, and at $2,142.09 its PSA 10 price is about 2.8 times its raw price.
- Shiny Rares and grading. Several Shiny Rares sell for far more in PSA 10 than raw. Pikachu #131 goes from $65.23 to $699.50, about 10.7 times, a higher PSA 10 price than Charizard ex #234 ($685.00); Tandemaus #209 goes from $25.00 to $382.96, about 15 times, and Maushold #210 about 14 times.
- One Pokémon, several cards. The two Mew ex cards differ by more than $700 raw: #216 (Shiny Ultra Rare) at $33.23 and #232 (Special Illustration Rare) at $751.90. Clive and Nemona are also printed as both Ultra Rare and Special Illustration Rare. Check the number on any listing.
- What is left out. Sealed products, promos and variant printings are not ranked; the set price list also carries variant rows such as Pikachu [Reverse Cosmos Holo] #18.
- Graded vs raw. Whether a PSA 10 price is worth chasing depends on the odds of getting one and on the fees; Is it worth grading? works through the method, and PSA 9 vs PSA 10 covers what separates the two grades.
Pull rates
The Pokémon Company does not publish pull rates. Two counts are published. TCGplayer's Authentication Center opened more than 1,500 booster packs to prepare for the January 26, 2024 release; its article by Peter Day (updated February 27, 2025) gives per-pack rates with 95% confidence ranges. DigitalTQ published a count of 536 packs on January 26, 2024, from its own pulls and unnamed third-party sources, recording nothing below Rare Holo and warning that its data may not be accurate. Both are estimates, not guarantees.
| Rarity | TCGplayer, any card | TCGplayer, a specific card | DigitalTQ, any card |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double Rare | 15.89% ± 1.69% (1 in 6) | 1.59% ± 0.58% (1 in 63) | 13.25% (71 pulls) |
| Ultra Rare | 6.61% ± 1.15% (1 in 15) | 1.32% ± 0.53% (1 in 76) | 7.28% (39) |
| Shiny Rare | 25.44% ± 2.01% (1 in 4) | 0.21% ± 0.21% (1 in 472) | 24.25% (130) |
| Shiny Ultra Rare | 7.72% ± 1.23% (1 in 13) | 0.64% ± 0.37% (1 in 155) | 9.33% (50) |

| Special Illustration Rare | 1.72% ± 0.60% (1 in 58) | 0.22% ± 0.21% (1 in 465) | 1.49% (8) |
| Hyper Rare | 1.61% ± 0.58% (1 in 62) | 0.27% ± 0.24% (1 in 372) | 0.75% (4) |
- Double Rare: TCGplayer 15.89% ± 1.69% (about 1 in 6 packs); DigitalTQ 13.25%.
- Ultra Rare: TCGplayer 6.61% ± 1.15% (about 1 in 15 packs); DigitalTQ 7.28%.
- Shiny Rare: TCGplayer 25.44% ± 2.01% (about 1 in 4 packs); DigitalTQ 24.25%.
- Shiny Ultra Rare: TCGplayer 7.72% ± 1.23% (about 1 in 13 packs); DigitalTQ 9.33%.
- Illustration Rare: TCGplayer 7.22% ± 1.20% (about 1 in 14 packs); DigitalTQ 8.58%.
- Special Illustration Rare: TCGplayer 1.72% ± 0.60% (about 1 in 58 packs); DigitalTQ 1.49%.

What the counts say, and where they differ
- Hits are common, specific Shinies are not. TCGplayer found a Shiny Rare in about a quarter of packs, but with 120 of them the odds of one specific Shiny Rare are 0.21% per pack, about 1 in 472. After its first 1,500 packs, a few Shiny Rares had still not turned up at all.
- The top chase card. A specific Special Illustration Rare comes in about 0.22% of packs, roughly 1 in 465; TCGplayer gives the same figure for Charizard ex #234.
- Where the hits sit. TCGplayer found Double Rares and Ultra Rares in the Rare slot, Shiny Rares and Shiny Ultra Rares in the first Reverse Holo slot, and Illustration Rares, Special Illustration Rares and Hyper Rares in the second Reverse Holo slot.
- The two counts. DigitalTQ's Ultra Rare, Shiny Rare and Special Illustration Rare rates fall inside TCGplayer's ranges. Its Shiny Ultra Rare (9.33%) and Illustration Rare (8.58%) rates are higher, and its Double Rare (13.25%) and Hyper Rare (0.75%, from 4 pulls) rates lower, all outside those ranges. DigitalTQ gives no ranges, and its sample is about a third the size. Its rows add to more than 100% because a pack can hold hits in more than one slot.
- Read the tables, not the headings. TCGplayer's article labels its Special Illustration Rare section “1 in 32” and describes Illustration Rares as “around 8-9%” of packs, while its tables give 1 in 58 and 7.22%. This page uses the table figures.
- Per pack, not per box. All figures are per booster pack, and TCGplayer notes that personal results will vary.
Checklist before you rely on a number here
- ☐ The price has a date: everything above is as of November 6, 2026, and prices move daily.
- ☐ You are comparing like with like: ungraded with ungraded, PSA 10 with PSA 10, and the right card number (Mew ex is 216 and 232; Charizard ex is 054 and 234; Gardevoir ex is 029, 217 and 233).
- ☐ The card is the regular set version, not a promo from an Elite Trainer Box, tin or collection, and not a Cosmos Holo or stamped printing.
- ☐ Pull rates are per-pack estimates from community counts, not official odds.
- ☐ For the main sets around it, see Paradox Rift and Temporal Forces; before grading, check the card against the modern pre-grading checklist.
